Welfare for Illegals Continues to Rise in Los Angeles County

June 2010

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich has just released figures from the Department of Public Social Services that reflect a substantial and outrageous increase in welfare benefits to children of illegal aliens residing in the county that total $52 million for April, 2010.

The DPSS report shows that $22 million went to CalWORKs and $30 million to the Food Stamp program, all distributed to the children of illegal alien parents. These figures represent approximately 23% of all CalWORKs and Food Stamp distributions in the county for the month of April.

For the entire year 2009, CalWORKs and Food Stamp distributions to illegals totaled almost $570 million. Therefore, total costs for both programs for children of illegal aliens has continued to rise at a steady pace by an additional $1 million every single month since January 2009.

Supervisor Antonovich indicated that “When you add this to $540 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for children of illegal immigrant parents to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year – not including the hundreds of millions of dollars for education.”

We at ACRU hope that all Americans are outraged that we continue to support illegal immigration with our tax dollars while the country is trillions in debt. We urge you to become active in the effort to end this travesty by contacting your own representatives and demand reform here.
