The American Civil Responsibilities Union (ACRU) wishes to go on record in stressing and supporting the need for greater immigration restrictions, selectivity and enforcement, as to U.S. immigration laws. We fully supported California's SOS initiative, Proposition 187, passed overwhelmingly by the voters, and were prepared to submit an amicus brief and testify in any court proceedings to challenge the specious arguments of those who filed questionable actions opposing its implementation. We believe that the judicial blocking of Proposition 187 constituted more "judicial legislation" and was tantamount to judicial obstruction of justice. We have failed to halt a veritable invasion of these United States by the world's most impoverished and uneducated, who often enter with communicable diseases, questionable backgrounds and without financial sponsorship. With virtual impunity, they violate our borders in ever increasing numbers, further jeopardizing and burdening this increasingly decadent, crime, drug and debt ridden nation. The ACRU submits that the "band-aid" treatment here will not stop the hemorrhaging of our borders. And considering today's Third World upheaval and the implications of increasing migrations of the world's exploding underclass, nothing less than a massive overhaul of our permissive immigration laws will save the U.S. from the impending demographic catastrophe. Urgency demands action here, now. We should be far more selective and restrictive, denying entry, for example, to all potentially dangerous and/or unstable elements. Citizenship should be denied to those born of parents who illegally trespass our borders and to all who violate our immigration laws. Amnesty was a permissive failure. And it goes without saying that we should deport all alien criminals. On the other hand, the ACRU favors reasonable immigration quotas and citizenship for those satisfying financial, educational, vocational, health and other reasonable requirements, and for those whose skills and recognized abilities would benefit our nation. Sadly, we are witnessing an associated sociological and moral retrogression of the U.S.A., and it may be irreversible. Simply put, increasing numbers of thoughtless people reproduce irresponsibly, perpetuating their poverty and our plight. While our scientists succeed in advancing technology, permissive "social engineers" and equivocating politicians rationalize our economic and moral decline, failing to deal with skyrocketing crime and illegitimacy or acknowledge that pregnant 13 year olds are victims of statutory rape. Further, this sociological revolution and our growing internal Third World has produced an altered electorate that favors more social welfarism at the expense of diminished free enterprise. Financial responsibility required of our citizens in other areas should apply as well to child bearing. For the ACRU believes that civil rights must be balanced by civil responsibilities. Unchallenged, our permissive immigration laws and defacto open borders will bankrupt and ultimately destroy this nation and Western Democracy as we've known it. |
